Our School Council represent the children’s voice, giving all children at Parkgate the chance to share their ideas and have their say. We encourage everyone to think of great ideas to help the school to become even more effective.

There are representatives from every class from Year 1 children to Year 6.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

School council meet twice a half term to discuss ideas for improving the school. Each class has a special school council ideas box in which children from the class can place their suggestions. These ideas and issues are discussed at the meetings and we investigate, plan, take action or find someone who can help.

The role of school councillor is a very important and responsible one. Children who represent their class are seen as role models for their peers.

Each year, as well as small changes, school council work on a bigger, whole school project.

Each School Council representative is elected by the children each year in September.  Each class elects one child to be their representative.  Children who want to be councillors for their class give speeches about why they want to be a councillor and how they will represent their class, and then the children have a vote!

The school council selects a chairperson, clerk and treasurer and they meet regularly with the deputy head teacher.
