At Parkgate Primary School we take e-safety extremely seriously. We have gained an accreditation from 360 Degree Safe, which recognised the work we have done and are continuing to do in regards to e-safety and child protection with technology. Our school's report is below and it outlines our successes and areas for development.
We believe that it is the right of every child to feel safe and secure when using technology. We teach children how to use technology correctly and how to deal with problems or when they feel unsafe.
We have a simple procedure which should also be used at home:
If anything makes you feel scared or uncomfortable tell a responsible adult straight away. Do not be afraid of getting into trouble.
It is important to encourage and develop a healthy lifestyle with regards to the use of technology and teach children about the risks of content and also the fact too much time in front of a screen is not good. We teach the children how to keep their data security safe and we teach them to be critical of the things they see and read online.
Help for Parents
There are some very simple rules to follow at home. Click on the link below to see them:
It is really important children only look at webpages and play games which are suitable for thier age. This is a useful website that will help you stay safe online:
It is vital that parents and carers work with us to ensure children stay safe in their use of technolgy. When we talk about e-safety, we are not just talking about the internet. We are also talking about the use of computers, games consoles, mobile phones, televisions and tablets.
There are several elements to e-safety that we teach:
- How to use the internet safely, and what to do if something goes wrong or we see something we should not
- How to keep ourselves safe, keeping details private and keeping data secure
- How to behave when using technology, being courteous and respectful, and what to do if others treat us in a way that is not kind. This strand also links to our Behaviour and Anti Bullying policies
- Encouraging a healthy use of technolgies- not over use
You will have been asked to fill in our Acceptable Use Policy when your child started at school. This details some of the ways in which we encourage children to behave and outlines our rules for safe use of technology. We also ask your permission for the use of photos and video on the website and in other media. Have a look at these resources that will help you set up technology to be safer at home. Follow these links for information on parental controls.
We have been accredited with the 360 esafety Award which recognises the work we undertake to protect and educate the children. Below is our report outlining our successes and points of aciton.
E Safety for our school website
The children are constantly taught and reminded about responsible use of technology including our own learning platform. Below is a presentation you may wish to share with your children in regards to issues which have been raised within the school website.
